The Hurricanes brought a category 5 storm to Mercer Stadium and remained undefeated this past weekend, clenching another win against Bush High School with a score of 64-3. The Canes’ currently have a 5-0 record.
“We went out there and executed in all phases: offense, defense, and special teams,” Kade Phillips (#7), who made a crucial fumble recovery during the game, said.
Dontreal Fisher (#1), who scored 3 touch downs during the game, attributed the team’s success to everyone’s love of the sport. “When we are having fun, we are unbeatable.”
At the end of the game, the Hi-Lites dance team officers, along with some cheerleaders, and football player Kylen Davis (#3) performed the traditional kickline of the score, making it all the way to 64 kicks.
“It was tiring, but it was fun to do,” Hi-Lites senior lieutenant Amaya Joseph said. “It makes me feel like I earned the score.”
Even though it was a blowout game, there was much support for Bush High School on the Hightower side. Cheerleaders, coaches, athletic trainers, and others on the field wore orange ribbons in honor of Bush Coach Allen Aldridge, who recently passed away.
Cheer coach Franchelle Hill, an alumnus of Hightower and the cheer team, wore a custom shirt in his honor.
“He’s an amazing individual,” Hill said. I had a couple conversations with him over the years and I respected him to the highest regard, so I wanted to make sure I honored him today.”
Hightower will play its next game against Dulles High School on Saturday, October 5th, at Mercer Stadium

In English, we say racial discrimination.
But in poetry, we say:
feeling isolated
and stripped from the life
you thought you could have,
being deprived due to oppression.
Stress is a curse but they
think it’s a blessing,
a world filled with love for everyone
EXCEPT you.
Others can’t trust you.
They say be grateful we’re free,
But what does that really mean?
An empty sound,
knowing no one wants you around.

We believe that the best photos are created when there is a connection between the photographer and the subject. That's why we take the time to get to know our clients and understand their vision before we start shooting.
